How to Write Technical Ads for Engineers and Buyers
Engineers have little patience for sales fluff. Learn how to write ad copy and choose creative that speaks to technical B2B buyers.

Direct answer
Advertising to technical audiences calls for an approach that differs from mass-market marketing. Skip emotional appeals, false urgency (“limited spots”), and vague promises (“the best solution”). Use facts, specifications, and numbers. State exactly what the product does. Engineers click on ads that precisely address a technical problem. If someone searches for “50 hp centrifugal pump,” the ad should say “50 hp Centrifugal Pump | High Flow | ANSI Standard.”
Technical copywriting: the power of precision
Replace adjectives with measurements. Instead of “highly resistant,” say “resists temperatures up to 150°C.” Instead of “durable,” say “20,000-hour service life.” Specifics show that you know the product and help qualify the click.
Ad creative that converts: images and video
In industrial markets, an “ugly” image can often sell better than a polished one. A real photo of a machine on the factory floor, even with a little grease on it, can feel more credible than a sterile 3D rendering. Use close-ups of technical details, cross-sections, and data tables in the image.
Where to advertise: LinkedIn or Google
Google Ads works for urgent, specific demand, such as “buy bearing X.” LinkedIn Ads helps introduce technologies and solutions engineers are not actively searching for yet, such as a new polymer that replaces steel.
Quick questions
Should ad copy be long or short?
On LinkedIn, longer technical copy built around a story or case study can work very well. On Google and Instagram, keep it brief and direct.
Should I use industry jargon?
Use technical terminology, which signals that you understand the field, but skip slang. Speak the language of the factory floor and the design office.
Do carousel ads work?
Yes. Use them to explain a process step by step, show five technical benefits, or compare your solution before and after.
Are video ads worth it?
Product demos lasting 30 to 60 seconds are strong converters. Show the product solving the problem.
What should the call to action say?
Avoid vague prompts like “Learn More.” Try “Download Datasheet,” “View Specifications,” “Request a Quote,” or “Talk to an Engineer.”
