Direct answer

Hire a B2B marketing consultant at three specific points in a company’s growth: when traffic is coming in but sales are not (a conversion or process problem); when you need to build a function from scratch and lack in-house expertise, such as outbound or ABM; or when marketing and sales are at odds and need a technical facilitator to establish shared processes (Revenue Operations). Do not hire a consultant when you need extra hands to publish posts. Bring in an agency or freelancer for execution capacity.

Consultant vs. agency vs. employee

A consultant sells expertise, methods, and a defined process with a beginning, middle, and end. An agency provides ongoing execution, such as social posts and media management. An employee contributes dedicated time. A common mistake is expecting an agency to fix the strategy or a consultant to keep posting on Instagram.

What consulting actually delivers

A good consultant does more than deliver a slide deck. The work should include a diagnosis of funnel gaps, ICP and persona definitions, a sales and marketing playbook, CRM setup, and team training so your people can run the process on their own afterward.

The cost of inaction

What does it cost to spend another six months wasting leads or unable to forecast revenue? In many cases, the consulting fee pays for itself with the first or second deal closed through the new process.

Quick questions

How long does a consulting project last?

Structural projects take three to six months. Less time tends to produce superficial work; more time can turn into dependency on the consultant (body shop).

Does the consultant execute or only plan?

At RudekWydra, we use a “Done With You” approach. We plan and help execute the first rounds to make sure the process works, then hand it over to your team.

Do I need an in-house marketing team?

Ideally, yes. At least one person should own the project internally and carry it forward after the consultant leaves.

Does consulting work for small companies?

Yes, with direct involvement from the owner. At larger companies, the counterpart is usually the sales or marketing director.

How do I choose the right consultant?

Ask to see the method. Without a clear framework or methodology, you may be paying for hours of opinion.
